Sawla - Ethiopien 12-2009

Dear Friends,

I just returned from Ethiopia where we conducted a crusade in the South, in Sawla. The local Kale Heywet church organized this 4 day-crusade. The Kale Heywet church has around 7000 churches with 6 million members in Ethiopia and is the largest denomination after the orthodox church. The church is an evangelical church which has opened up to the moving of the Holy Spirit. All the denominations in Ethiopia are open for the work of the Holy Spirit, except the orthodox church, which is the largest denomination with 42 % of the population.

We met a man of God, who was the first missionary to the Gofa Region 80 years ago and who told us that he is 114 years old. He seemed to be very fit for his age.

Sawla itself  has around 8000 people and with the surrounding areas included around 50.000 people.

It took us 13 hours by bus to travel 500 km from Addis Ababa to Sawla. The last 170 km were gravel road. Not many cars are going to Sawla. On Sunday we had around 13.000 people in the service. Many walked for several miles to get to the service. The hunger for the word of God is great. This is perhaps the reason that we see signs and miracles taking place. It is a great privilege to preach the word of God to these wonderful people. They sit very attentive and listen to the word of God. Many gave their hearts to Jesus and we witnessed again a number of miracles. Deafness, eye problems, growths, heart diseases, lameness were amongst the healings. A climax was the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit fell upon many and gave each one his own prayer language.

I want to thank everyone who has helped to make this crusade possible. End of January we are going again for another crusade  to a town called Chuko. It is a small town and the pastor of a church there has invited us to come. He will organize the crusade together with other local pastors. We are also going to have seminars every morning from 6 - 8.30 am for pastors and leaders and a bible teacher from America will come and help with the teaching. Perhaps there is someone who is interested to come sometime and help us with the expense of the crusade and with the teaching. This would be a great help. For next year we are planning to have around 8 crusades in Ethiopia, God willing. I am trusting God that he will supply all the finances for theses crusades.

After prayer she can read her bible again which she couldn’t do before.

 

On Sunday the Holy Spirit fell on many hungry hearts and they began to speak in other tongues. Many seemed like drunks unable to stand. It was a service according to the order of Acts chapter 2. In the old testament the Spirit of God came upon Saul and he fell down and prophesied. The Holy Spirit fell upon many young people in Sawla.
